To increase awareness about the strategic value of learning in organizations, the Association of Talent Development (ATD) has declared December 2-6, 2019, as "Employee Learning Week." Many member organizations have planned events to highlight the important link between developing employees' skills and achieving organizational results.

ATD research shows that organizations continue to invest in growing the knowledge and skills of their workforce. "Senior executives realize that the most important asset in our knowledge economy is talent, and a skilled workforce is the key to realizing results. We encourage all organizations to demonstrate their commitment to learning by recognizing Employee Learning Week," says Tony Bingham, ASTD President and CEO.

Your organization can be designated an ATD “Champion of Learning” by participating in Employee Learning Week. There is no requirements to be a ATD member to participate. Get recognized by emailing elw@td.org with information about what you did to showcase Employee Learning Week this year. Here are a few ways to consider participating:

  • Work with board members of your local Southeastern Virginia (SEVA) ATD chapter to pilot a employee learning event.
  • Institute an employee development recognition event for individuals and departments in your organization.
  • Introduce new learning opportunities during the week.
  • Communicate learning and development tips to your workforce each day of the week.
  • Help employees create individual development plans to increase and enhance their skills.
  • Submit an article about your company’s learning efforts to a local newspaper.
  • Use social media to broadcast and promote your employee learning event.

Note: If you or your organization plan to participate in Employee Learning Week 2019, please add your name to the registration for local chapter recognition.

Thank You,

Ms. Marlo Thomas-Calloway, SHRM-CP/PHR
